7 Dec 2007 - Spelling - a whole school focus
We are making spelling a whole school focus and we would like you to work with us and hlep your childen too.
All of KS2 have been assessed and given the spelling book appropriate to their level. Books will stay in school and be completed in a short test on a Monday.
At KS2 the children will be sent home a list of spellings on a Monday to be learnt by the following Monday. At the top of each page is a target number for them to aspire to in order to become a SPELLING SUPERSTAR
If they do not achieve their personal target because they ahve not learnt their spellings they will become a SWAMP DWELLER and no-one wants to be one of those.
SUPERSTARS recieve awards
SUPERSTARS can achieve well in their writing
SUPERSTARS will get good levels in their tests
SUPERSTARS will earn merits
SUPERSTARS will be praised in assembly
SUPERSTARS can help their family members to spell
SUPERSTARS can take messages by the office telephone
SUPERSTARS will go far...........
So please help your child to be a SUPERSTAR
You can help by
- testing them for 5 minutes every evening
- testing them on the way to and from school every day
- testing them on the way to activities on a Saturday
- asking how they got on in the Monday test
- praising them and encouraging them to do well
- making spelling important at home too in shopping lists etc
- learning alongside the children and having some fun
- offering a small reward for becoming a SUPERSTAR
We are looking forward to all your children attaining SUPERSTAR status
